Palladium
These images are Palladium prints on handcoated fine art paper. The Palladium printing process can be traced back to the mid 1800's and is one of few truly archival photographic processes.
The 100% cotton fiber paper is sensitized with an emulsion containing palladium. This is done by brushing the solution evenly onto the paper with a fine brush. After drying the enlarged negative is put in direct contact to the paper and exposed from 10 - 30 mins. by either sunlight or an ultraviolet light source, followed by developing, clearing and washing baths. All in all a time-consuming process.
The final image consists of metallic Palladium in divided state. The subtle softness and obvious beauty are typical for the Palladium process. And the hand coating gives each print its own subtleties making it a truly unique print.
